Our verdict

Buy the V15 for hard floors and smart suction. Buy the V11 for simple value.

The Dyson V15 Detect adds a piezo particle sensor, a dust-illuminating Fluffy Optic cleaner head and 240 AW of claimed suction. The Dyson V11 still brings strong carpet cleaning, a useful LCD screen and the same up-to-60-minute claim. The key is the price gap—not the model number.

Best sale pick

Dyson V11

The no-drama cleaner
with a very good screen.

The Dyson V11 is for people who care more about clean carpet than dust graphs. It sits between the older Dyson V10 and the newer V15. Most Torque Drive and Absolute bundles have an LCD screen, three cleaning modes and a High Torque or Motorbar cleaner head.

TechRadar’s October 2025 re-test found it excellent on mid-pile carpet and pet hair. The tester measured 65 minutes in Eco, 33 in Med and 15 in Boost. That is useful context for the “60 minute” claim. Read the 2025 re-test ↗

The LCD screen is the quiet hero.

It shows the cleaning mode, estimated run time and blockage help. You do not get the V15’s particle count. You do get less guesswork than with a basic LED battery light.

Design and daily use

The in-line body moves well as a stick vacuum. It can feel top-heavy as a handheld. The trigger must stay pressed, and there is no continuous-run lock. Tools and screens vary between the V11 Animal, V11 Absolute and V11 Torque Drive. Check the exact box before you buy.

What works

  • Excellent mid-pile carpet pickup
  • Strong pet-hair cleaning
  • Clear LCD run-time countdown
  • Removable battery on current versions

What may grate

  • No V15-style dust illumination
  • Can feel top-heavy
  • Trigger has no lock
  • Features differ by V11 version

Dyson V15 Detect

The dust detective
with muscle to match.

The Dyson V15 Detect is the more complete vacuum cleaner. Its 240 AW claim beats the common V11’s 185 AW. It also adds a Laser Slim Fluffy—now called Fluffy Optic on many bundles—for hard floors. The green light shows fine dust that normal room light can hide.

A piezoelectric sensor counts and sizes incoming particles. In Auto mode, the sensor can detect more dirt and automatically adjust suction. The LCD screen turns that data into a live particle graph. It is part cleaning tool, part tiny science show.

The laser is useful. Auto mode is the bigger win.

The fluffy brushroll on the V15 is made for hard floors. The Digital Motorbar handles carpet and floor-type changes. Together, they mean fewer compromises as you move from wood to rugs.

Design and daily use

At about 6.83 lb, the V15 is close to the V11 in weight. It still uses a press-and-hold trigger. The extra data is fun, but not essential. Buy it for the two-head system and stronger cleaning power—not just to watch dust bars rise.

What works

  • 240 AW claimed suction
  • Fluffy Optic plus Digital Motorbar
  • Particle sensor adjusts suction in Auto
  • Excellent carpet deep-clean score

What may grate

  • Higher list price
  • Particle graph is not essential
  • Still top-heavy for some users
  • Boost cuts run time sharply

Living with either one

Which Dyson feels easier after the unboxing?

Is the learning curve steep, or is it just a fancier way to chase cereal?

Setup

Charge either battery vacuum for about 4.5 hours before a full first clean. Clip in the wand and cleaner head. Wall mounting needs tools; a freestanding dock may cost extra.

Learning curve: low for both.

Daily cleaning

V11: pick a suction mode and go. V15: leave it in Auto and let the particle sensor adjust suction power. Both convert to handhelds for sofas, stairs and cars.

Edge: V15 for mixed floor types.

Care

Empty the bin before debris reaches the MAX line. Wash the filter with cold water as your manual directs and let it dry fully. Never put a damp filter back.

Tie: simple, but do not skip drying.

Best-for scenarios

Which vacuum is best for your kind of mess?

Pets, rugs, wood floors or a tight budget—what wins?

The safe bet

V15 Detect

It is the stronger all-rounder. You get more claimed suction, Auto dust response and two specialized cleaning heads.

Alternatives worth a look

What if neither Dyson model is quite right?

Need less weight, a bigger bin or a lower price?

Lower cost

Dyson V10

Like the Dyson V10? It still makes sense at a steep discount. You lose the V11’s useful LCD countdown and the V15’s detection tech. Stock is now limited in many markets, so compare the exact V10 Absolute bundle.

Big homes

V11 Outsize

The Dyson Outsize has a wider cleaner head, a much larger bin and two batteries. Dyson quotes up to 120 minutes with both. It is bulkier, but it can beat a second charge break.

Less weight

V12 Detect Slim

Want the laser and particle sensor without flagship weight? The V12 Detect Slim is the edge case to consider. Its bin and suction are smaller, but its one-press power button may feel easier.

$
$
At $500 vs $650, the $150 gap is reasonable for the V15’s hard-floor head and Auto dust response.

Current listing snapshot

Dyson’s US V15 Detect page showed $649.99, down from $849.99, when checked on 25 Oct 2026. The Absolute car-cleaning bundle showed $599.99. Bundle contents differ, so compare tools—not just price. Check Dyson ↗
